First Nations + Horses

Why are we drawn to “wild horses” ... or as I like to phrase them ‘feral’ horses.
There is so many aspects to this draw to horses, here I began the story with the connection between Secwepemc Nation and Lands.. which don’t get me wrong, this topic alone is worth a few books.
Secwepemc Ontology (world view) is grounded in the relationship between people and the natural world. Traditional Secwepemc way of life was based on the land. interconnected and interdependent we are all one with the land.
The same is with the horses that run freely on the range lands.
We may view horses as one, or shared Identity, placing their life value as ours.
As well,
It’s common knowledge that horse represents a powerful spirituality, they give us strength & symbolizes freedom.
This maybe why we are strongly drawn to the presence of horses
I feel this is a subject worth pursuing further and look forward to evolving my photography of feral horses into something more..

Here this herd is high above the domestic housing of Tkemlups Te Secwepemc
where they still have access to roam the range lands as they pleas & need to insure their survival. 

The grass lands offer a sustainable habit for these feral horses all year round. Adequate feed that horses have adapted to forage from to sustain them thru our Canadian winters. Shelters under the tall trees and in the deep ravens. Free flowing water, from the many available streams that flow out of the Mount Paul mountain.
