Why are we drawn to “wild horses” ... or as I like to phrase them ‘feral’ horses. There is so many aspects to this draw to horses, here I began the story with the connection between Secwepemc Nation and Lands.. which don’t get me wrong, this topic alone is worth a few books. Secwepemc Ontology (world view) is grounded in the relationship between people and the natural world. Traditional Secwepemc way of life was based on the land. interconnected and interdependent we are all one with the land. The same is with the horses that run freely on the range lands. We may view horses as one, or shared Identity, placing their life value as ours. As well, It’s common knowledge that horse represents a powerful spirituality, they give us strength & symbolizes freedom. This maybe why we are strongly drawn to the presence of horses I feel this is a subject worth pursuing further and look forward to evolving my photography of feral horses into something more.. Here this herd is high above the domestic housing of Tkemlups Te Secwepemc where they still have access to roam the range lands as they pleas & need to insure their survival. The grass lands offer a sustainable habit for these feral horses all year round. Adequate feed that horses have adapted to forage from to sustain them thru our Canadian winters. Shelters under the tall trees and in the deep ravens. Free flowing water, from the many available streams that flow out of the Mount Paul mountain. join in on my journey of discovery of the relationship and connection of Horse + First Nations peoples. #firstnations #culture #history #painthorse #nikoncanada #firstpeoples #feralhorse #wildhorse #equinephotography

Along with Im sure a million or more people, 2020 started out filled with ambitious hopes & goals...then reality hits. Which among many things, has created opportunity for me to grow. I either had to give up or get with it. I scrambled and fumbled big time! figuring out how to create revenue when my main source of income is covering large events... my passion for capturing unique and powerful images of horses was shaping up to take front row in my life. I usually fill enough images for my annual calendar, but this year I had opportunity to take this up a level. I spent more time hiking out in the hills, searching for the local feral horses, herds of bucking stock, and spending more time with our own herd of horses out on pasture. How can I be paid to take pictures of what I love? a question that often rolls around in my brain...this does not feel like work. Its only my time and creative eye.. well.. life lesson here... I have to value my skills, value my ability to see what others can not, ability to create emotional images, ability to take a simple old camera set and make images that are pure emotion...and trust in my self, that these are truly good. To be challenged, to taste the win, to be humbled, to not look at others as competition but rather as a push to free my own creative drive and stop holding back... This...holding back..is big for me. Its a tricky concept, a feeling, a way of being..its tricky to let that go. To look at one self in a more loving lens and freaking go for it! what do you have to lose... Long story short, this year I started offering Prints and seriously could not keep them long enough to actually post for sale! they were flying out the door. and the calendars... my BEST year yet! sold out 3 times - with my largest orders done to date. talk about validation that this is the direction to be taking my images. It feels so Crazy GOOD to be rewarded for a decision that I doubted. *eyes* rolling...talk about trusting the process Thankyou to all my amazing, supportive friends here on social media- you've been the driving force behind my photography journey. I literally can not thank the friends & families who did book their sessions there..they were epic, amazing & memorable. you all make my year. I wish you all a Happy New Year - and may 2021 be everything your hoping it to be. Do Not hold Back. Go for it. see you next year. #cowgirlmagazine #westernhorsemen #portraits #nikoncanada #nikon #equinephotography #horses #kamloopsbc #explorebritishcolumbia #cowgirlstyle #familyphotography #sessions #sunsets #wilde #westernlifestyle #westernlife #westernromance #feralhorse #westernhorse #wild #wildhorse #cowboy #cowgirls
This blustery session was pure enchantment, especially when I pull up to see horse after horse after horse tied up and waiting patiently. I just knew it was going to be a good one. I have no fear on the location...I can make it Happen even in ones own back yard.. I really should do more "what You see, verses what I see" pull backs..you'd be amazed that images can be created in locations that are lacking green vegetation of open spaces.. At her ranch, we headed down the hill towards the creek, where I utilized a back drop of winter trees to help create this mood. Being a horsewomen, you just meet some horses and Know how incredible they are...like these aged souls...their expressive eyes and quirky attitudes drew me in and had me laughing I had so much fun spending the afternoon with this lovely lady & all her horses. There is nothing more special to photograph then a girl & her horse. #horsephotographer #equinephotography #westernlifestyle #nikoncanada #kamloopsphotographer #horses #sorrelhorse #barrelracer #firstnations #culture #photography #portrait #outdoorsphotographer

I Love this family! if you've had the pleasure of meeting any one of them, you know what Im talking about. Chalk full of competitive cowgirls & cowboys, this family is living the dream. When the Grandparents get to have all this squishy time with the grand babies..you know there is going to be lots of love flying around. Dressed in a very chic color tone, they make it easy to blend the images through out the rustic sage brush, desert hills & setting sun. If you're stuck on 'what to wear' take special note of their outfits! Denim on denim is rocking this session, along with your fall browns & of course trophy buckles. Horses...Bring the horses! all of them! we will have such a good time laughing while we get horse ears and the horses to model the way we know they can! No harm to baby was done lol He was reeling with laughter when flying with his uncle... *Im very sure, this is a usual Uncle Antic - give everyone else a heart attack and rough up babies. Pinching cheeks is my families uncle usual-go-to move. I am still booking family session - YUP all year! I LOVE the snow..seriously once you adjust to it being 'yucky' cold out side, the images are simply magic. see more on my social media pages! One of the most common questions I am ask..and I think, 'weird' I must not post about his often {insert laughing emoji} haha So here I am saying, "YES, I take a lot of family photos", especially all my western/horse friends & family. The human adults, human kidlets, pups, turkeys, chickens & yes bring the horses... Seriously the most decisions you have to make is 'What to Wear'.. and even that is easy!

Talk about perfect timing here in Kamloops. This beach is simply stunning & Horsey accessible- which is exactly what I need for my Horse Photography sessions. This Sunday, had a cold wind blowing in (which who knew, but the first Snow fall happened the very next day). This is Cowgirl tuff...She braved the strong cold wind to get some photos with her very pretty dress; then we layered back into warmer gear to go for a gallop up the beach. Who is lucky enough to have 1 beautiful horse; she gets to have Both in her pictures. Her mom brought along her horse to be part of the photoshoot today...This stunning palomino made it easy to model what I was going for, 'snuggling'... Back to her horse, 'persistent' in showing her mare where to put her nose for Snuggles. Persistance pays off! we get the snuggle & the photo. Thanks to the incredible parents- little girls (and photogs) get to create magical memories that will last a life time. Booking Beach Sessions Now.
#equinephotography #kamloopsphotographer #horsephotography #famillyphotographer #westernlifestylephotographer #cowgirl The warm summer nights, cotton floating in the wind, sunbeams dancing across the fields...my camera slung around my shoulders waiting...for the magic to happen. From the far mountains of northern BC to back yard in Kamloops BC... I manage to find magic in the glowing light of Sunset hour. Doesn't this create a magical space? The Lusitanos at The Horse Ranch, in Bradonnel BC...are some of the most earthly horses I have encountered. Their nature and energy was so grounding and revitalizing. "We made a promise to meet again It all seemed absurd Yet for once, let's just let go of everything And stay together forever in our dreams I told you, I mean it this time"... poem by Faten It was a beautiful privilege to spend several days with this herd and to be allowed to capture some of their most natural moments. Thankyou for checking out my latest blog. who can remember heading to the fishing spot as a child? Those memories are filled with excitement, adventure, thrill, and fantasy....you just never knew what you were going to find in the deep waters...our childs imagination would run rapid and be full of adventure and heroics. For my boys it was all above, and the sweet, sweet memories of being on this adventure together. #family #kids #fishing #adventurephotographer #nikon #portraits #lifestyles #equine #horse #equestrain #equinephotographerWhen our newborns first photo shoot is like this... We should have known he was destined to be our tough little Cowboy...See him now, 3 years later, after taming wild horses on the range lands of Deadmans Creek. Hunter is our littlest cowboy, he is a serious study on the ways of natural horsemanship. He loves being in the barn, there is so many things for him to get into...His steady stead, Rory, is a gem. Patience galore and the biggest heart for his little rider. All smiles on top of his horse Rory. Rory is one of our 3 year old colts that we brought over from the breeder- Bar Over S ranch - his disposition is impeccable, everything that a little boy could ask for. Rory will be a stage 5 horse in The Horse Ranch stages, which Jordan & Candice Camille are achieving their stages of natural horsemanship thru. Camilles Horsemanship can be found at: www.camilleshorses.com Spring is around the corner, lets start planning out your childrens session. |
